Get out of your car lease early in Gatineau.

AutoAgents buys leased vehicles from drivers across Gatineau, Hull and Aylmer. Our store is a few minutes over the river, and the crossing changes nothing about the two numbers that decide your options: what your vehicle is worth, and what your leasing company wants to release it.

Tell us about your vehicle

AutoAgents appraises vehicles in 60 seconds. Your VIN gives us the most accurate result — find it on your registration, insurance card, or driver-side door jamb.

The short version

  • AutoAgents is an OMVIC-registered dealership (registration #5645627) with a Ottawa location at 1485 Laperriere Avenue.
  • We work directly with your leasing company to clear the payoff, including mid-term leases — you do not have to wait for your lease to end.
  • If your vehicle is worth more than the payoff, the difference is yours; if it is worth less, you will see the shortfall before you decide anything.
  • You do not need to buy or finance another vehicle from AutoAgents to sell us your leased car.
  • We buy Quebec-registered vehicles. Tell us where the vehicle is plated when you start and we will confirm what the transfer requires before anything is signed.

Can AutoAgents buy out my lease?

In most cases, yes. AutoAgents purchases leased vehicles from Gatineau drivers, and we handle the payoff with your leasing company directly rather than leaving it to you.

The process differs from selling a car you own outright, because the leasing company still legally owns the vehicle. Instead of simply transferring the title to us, we confirm the amount required to purchase the vehicle out of your lease and whether that company permits an independent dealer to complete the buyout.

That last part matters and it is not something any dealer controls. Some leasing companies allow an independent dealer to buy the vehicle directly; others restrict buyouts to you as the lessee, or to dealerships inside their own franchise network. Tell us who holds your lease and we will confirm what applies to you before you commit to anything.

How the payout and your equity work

Two numbers decide everything: what your vehicle is worth on today's market, and what your leasing company requires to release it. We appraise the first and confirm the second, then show you both side by side.

If the appraisal comes in above the payout, that difference is equity in the vehicle — real money that belongs to you. Depending on how you want to handle it, we can pay it out to you or put it toward your next vehicle. As an illustration only: on a vehicle we appraise at $37,000 against a $34,000 lease payout, the $3,000 difference is yours. Your own numbers will depend entirely on your vehicle and your contract.

This is also why waiting until lease-end is often the wrong move. A lease payout is fixed the day you sign, but the market is not — and a vehicle that is worth more than its contract assumed is worth more to you now, not after another two years of kilometres.

What if you owe more than the car is worth?

Ask for the appraisal anyway. Knowing the gap is worth more than guessing at it, and there is no obligation attached to finding out.

If the payout is higher than what we can pay for the vehicle, we show you the shortfall in writing. You can settle the difference directly, or it can be rolled into financing on your next vehicle. You can also decide the numbers do not justify moving yet and simply keep the lease — we would rather tell you that than talk you into a bad transaction.

A buyout, not a lease takeover

These two get confused constantly, so to be clear about which one this is: a lease takeover means finding another consumer to assume your contract and take over your payments. AutoAgents does not broker lease takeovers.

A buyout means the vehicle is sold and the lease is closed out. AutoAgents purchases the vehicle, the payoff goes to your leasing company, and your obligation on that contract ends rather than transferring to a stranger whose payment history you would have no control over.

Selling a Quebec-plated lease to an Ontario dealer

Plenty of Gatineau drivers assume a lease signed on this side of the river has to be unwound on this side of the river. It does not. What governs the buyout is your contract and the company that holds it, not which province the dealer sits in — and your leasing company is almost certainly national.

What genuinely differs is the registration paperwork. A Quebec-plated vehicle does not transfer the way an Ontario-plated one does, so we ask where the vehicle is registered at the start rather than discovering it at the end. Tell us that along with who holds your lease, and we will confirm both what your contract permits and what the transfer requires before you commit to anything.

The rest is the same as it would be anywhere else we buy: an appraisal against current market data, the payout confirmed with your leasing company, both numbers shown to you side by side, and free pickup once you have decided.

FAQ

Lease buyouts in Gatineau: common questions

Can AutoAgents buy out my car lease?

In most cases, yes. AutoAgents purchases leased vehicles from Gatineau drivers and works directly with your leasing company to clear the payoff. Because the leasing company owns the vehicle until the lease is settled, eligibility depends on that company's policy — some permit an independent dealer to complete the buyout, and some restrict it to you or to their own franchise network. Tell us who holds your lease and we will confirm before you commit.

Can I sell my leased car without buying another car?

Yes. You can sell an eligible leased vehicle to AutoAgents without purchasing or financing anything from us. There is no requirement to trade into another vehicle.

What if I still have two years left on my lease?

You do not have to wait for your lease to end. We work directly with your lender to clear the payoff on mid-term leases. What matters is the payout your leasing company requires today and what your vehicle is worth today — not how many months remain on the contract.

What happens if my leased car has positive equity?

If our purchase price is higher than the lease payout, that difference is equity in the vehicle and it belongs to you. We can pay it to you directly or apply it toward your next vehicle, whichever you prefer.

What if I owe more than the car is worth?

You can still get the appraisal, and there is no obligation. If the payout exceeds what we can pay, we show you the shortfall in writing. You can settle it directly, roll it into financing on your next vehicle, or decide to keep the lease.

Do all leasing companies allow dealer buyouts?

No, and it is worth knowing this before you shop. Buyout policies vary by manufacturer and leasing company: some allow an independent dealer to purchase a leased vehicle directly, while others restrict buyouts to the lessee or to dealerships within their own franchise network. AutoAgents will confirm what options apply to your specific lease.

What do I need to get a lease buyout offer?

Your VIN, current kilometres, and the company your lease is through are enough to start. Your lease account number, approximate lease-end date, and vehicle condition let us firm the numbers up. Begin with the VIN and kilometres and we will walk you through the rest.

Can an Ontario dealer buy out a lease on a Quebec-plated car?

In most cases, yes. What decides a buyout is your lease contract and the company holding it, not the province the dealer operates in, and leasing companies are generally national. The registration paperwork does differ for a Quebec-plated vehicle, so tell us where the car is plated at the start and we will confirm what the transfer requires alongside what your lease allows.

Do you pick up leased cars in Gatineau?

Yes — pickup across Gatineau, Hull, Aylmer, Buckingham and the surrounding municipalities is free. Once the paperwork with your leasing company is in order, we collect the vehicle from your home or work, and payment of any equity owing to you goes out the day we take it.

Do I have to cross to Ottawa to sell you my leased car?

No. Our store at 1485 Laperriere Avenue is about twenty minutes from downtown Gatineau and you are welcome there, but nothing about a lease buyout requires the trip. The appraisal, the payoff confirmation, the paperwork and payment all work from Gatineau, and we come to you.
